Trips to Screen South & Wellcome Collection.
July 2024
This month saw my website planning phase move into building, where technical development and content integration took place. Including updating my blog showcasing the progress and development of my portfolio. I also went on the planned trips to both the Wellcome Collection in London and Screen South’s Digital Hub based at Digital Glassworks, Folkestone.
I had arranged a meeting with Screen South’s managing director Jo Nolan to discuss my project and how I could potentially join some of the courses they offer including an XR scheme which I am now planning an application for.
I also registered for a place on their 2 day VR immersive course on 5/6th August in Ashford, learning about Unreal Engine, which is a series of 3D computer graphics and game engines.
Whilst visiting the Wellcome Collection there was an installation on at the time from Artist Jason Wilsher-Mills presenting a major solo exhibition, ‘Jason and the Adventure of 254’. It was a joyful exploration of the body, drawing on the artist’s experience of becoming disabled as a child.
Reimagining the gallery space as a hospital ward, Wilsher-Mills’ installation of sculptures, illustrations and interactive dioramas challenges cultural and societal perceptions surrounding disability, medicine and the human body. The exhibition is inspired by 1980s TV. There were interactive push-button lights and a narrated headphone guided tour you could listen to. I took inspiration from some of the ideas for my future project development as I later have ideas to create an installation of my own.
